The 'American Idol' Top 8 took on the Motor City with help from mentor and Motown legend Smokey Robinson. Kree Harrison and Janelle Arthur put their country spin on old classics and sang a Madonna song together.

Kree & Janelle

The two country girls teamed up for a Madonna song.  Strange choice for 2 country gals.  Did no country star come out of Detroit?  Regardless, the girls did a great job with 'Like a Prayer,' although Kree did a bit better job on the song than Janelle.

Candice Glover

Candice Glover kicked of Motown week with 'I Heard it Through the Grapevine;' a song that has been done by a number of stars.  But no one has give a performance quite like Candice.  It should have her sailing through to next week.

Amber Holcomb

Amber Holcomb went with Stevie Wonder's 'Lately' and received a standing ovation from all four judges for her performance. I'd never heard the song before, and maybe I'm missing something.  Amber is good but I didn't think it was standing ovation worthy.

Burnell Taylor

Burnell Taylor is the only chance the guys have of winning this season.  He had the judges singing his praises for his rendition of 'My Cherie Amour.'  Fans should vote him through to next week as well.  Burnell will need to step things up if he wants to take on the girls, who seem to be dominating the competition this year.

Idol favorite Angie Miller failed to impress with the Miracles' 'Shop Around.'  At times, see was even a little pitchy, which is unusual for Angie.  Her popularity with the viewers should save her, despite a disappointing performance.

Devin Velez and Lazro Arbos could be the ones in trouble this week.  Although Lazro and Devin both did better this week than last, they paled in comparison to everyone else.  Plus their performance with Burnell Taylor of 'I Can't Help Myself' was a train wreck. It was so bad, Nicki Minaj felt like she was back at Hollywood week.
