Pink Pumpkins Highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month", and Big Frog 104 would like to share news with you about efforts going on to do just that - raise awareness. Now, a pumpkin grower in Minnesota is offering pink pumpkins this month. While it's not clear if any local pumpkin sellers have the pink versions, you can always take a can of spray paint and create one of your own. Meet Debbie Baker of Rome. Four years ago she decided to take her health into her own hands after losing her mother. Deb went in for gastric bypass surgery and lost 170 pounds. During the surgery doctors found precancerous lumps in her breast. Luckily it was caught in time and removed. Her husband Ed Baker is grateful. 'If she didn't have the weight loss surgery she never would have found the lumps and our lives would be totally different. We've been together 28 years and I couldn't imagine what our life would be like now if she didn't find the lumps when she did. Its all about early detection.'

Martina McBride is teaming up with the NFL to support the fight against breast cancer. She'll sing the Star Spangled Banner before the Jets/Ravens game Sunday night to kick off the NFL's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

You'll notice pink ribbons on the footballs and goal posts. Pink coins will even be used for the coin toss and players will have pink on their uniforms. The Sunday night 'Pink' game is the first in a series throughout the month of October.
