The National Weather Service has confirmed another tornado touched down in Oneida County, bringing New York's total to four tornadoes this season.

This latest twister was an EF1 with winds reaching 110 mph and carved a 4.74-mile path from Westmoreland to Clinton early Tuesday morning. It touched down at 3:59 AM and lifted by 4:10 AM, passing near the Hamilton College campus.

The tornado formed from a sharp kink in the storm line and left behind serious damage:

  • Numerous trees snapped or uprooted
  • A local farm suffered heavy damage to its silo and outbuildings
  • Debris was thrown over 1,000 feet, some pieces impaling the ground like missiles

In addition to the tornado's destruction, damaging straight-line winds up to 70 mph also caused scattered tree damage throughout the area.
