Today is the first day of spring. Yes I know, it doesn't at all seem like it. I know the warmer weather seems like only a fantasy right now, but I am sure that it will be here soon enough. There are so many reasons to look forward to the warm weather's arrival here in Central New York.

Here Is A List Of The Many Reasons To Look Forward To The Warmer Weather:

1. This Winter Has Been Ridiculously Cold

I know this one seems kind of obvious. It may be obvious, but it's TRUE. In my 20+ years of living here in Central New York, I do not remember a winter being this unbearably frigid. Here it is almost April and it's possible we may still see single digits at some point next week!!!

2. Enjoying One Of The Many Fine Local Beaches

Here in the Central New York region we have the privilege of many different lakes and beaches. Not including all the possible lakes in the Adirondacks, there is Lake Delta in Rome, Sylvan Beach in Verona (and other surrounding towns and villages), and Raquette Lake. All of these places have swimming and leisure activities available. Not to mention Sylvan Beach has a whole amusement park!

3. The Adirondack Park

I know that I kind of covered this in reason #2, but The Adirondacks deserve a category all their own. From Old Forge to Blue Mountain Lake there are so many opportunities for a good time. Along route 28 you have the awesome village of Old Forge with shops, great restaurants, and a nice old fashion movie theatre for those rainy days camping. You also have New York's largest water theme park Enchanted Forest Water Safari, where the fun never stops, Duh-Dun!!! If you go a little bit beyond the village of Old Forge you have the Fulton Chain of Lakes. These massive bodies of water have loads of potential for fun in the sun, whether it be swimming, kayaking, water skiing/tubing, or just renting a camp and enjoying a weekend away from it all. Call me bias because I basically grew up there, but who doesn't love a nice weekend away from reality?

4. GOLF!!!!

This is an obvious one! If you are a golfer you know what I am talking about! Whether you're good, bad, or just plain awful (I teeter between bad and just plain awful) it doesn't matter, unless your playing for money. Just being out on the freshly mowed course with the sun beating down, and the nice breeze on your face makes for one great day of fun and tranquility. You have to be careful though, as Harry Vardon once said, "Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty."

5. Saranac Thursday

This one is simple. Great Beer, Great Friends, Great Party! Nothing beats a night at the brewery capped off with a crawl down Varrick St.

6. Being More Active

During the Winter it's so hard not to be confined to your home. That feeling of being trapped can really take its toll on you mentally and physically. With so many public outdorr sports fields, parks, running trails in our community there is never a shortage of opportunities to get out and exercise a little. Whether it's early in the morning or as the sun sets, that warm weather gives you the comfort and freedom to do as you wish.

7. The Wild West FrogFest and Rodeo!!!!

And last but certainly not least, this year's Wild West FrogFest and Rodeo presented by White's Farm Supply! Once the warmer weather arrives that will be a sure sign that FrogFest is soon approaching! This year's FrogFest will be the biggest and best yet! For the very first time there is 4 Nashville acts including headliner Thompson Square. You can surely expect an incredible day of killer country music, a thrilling rodeo, great food and drink, and one big party! You can't experience something like that in the cold. Don't miss it!

This Year's FrogFest is June 14th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate.

So even though it may be cold and cloudy now, it will get better. Keep your head up and your mind focused on these 7 reasons to stick it out (hopefully) for a few more weeks!
