Hudson Valley residents planning to travel over the next few days will still be paying a lot at the pump.

According to Triple-A, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in New York is now $3.56. That's the highest gas has been in New York for Thanksgiving in at least seven years.

One year ago, gas in New York cost $2.218.

The good news is the average price of gas nationwide is down a penny in the past week, and Triple-A thinks prices should continue to drop.

“The price of crude oil accounts for about 50%–60% of what consumers pay at the pump, so a lower oil price should translate into better gasoline prices for drivers,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said. “But until global oil production ramps back up to pre-pandemic levels, this recent dip in the price of crude may only be temporary.”
