Big Changes Could Be Coming to Sangertown Square With BJ’s Wholesale Club

Get ready to stock up on toilet paper, snacks, and maybe that giant container of laundry detergent you somehow convince yourself you need every time you walk into a warehouse store.

A new wholesale club could be coming to Sangertown Square in New Hartford.

BJ’s Wholesale Club has submitted plans to the Town of New Hartford as the company looks to build a new location at the shopping center, according to the Rome Sentinel.

What Happens Next?

Right now, this is still in the planning stages, and there are plenty of steps before anyone can start loading up a giant shopping cart.

The first step is a New Hartford Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meeting to review the proposal that will be held on Thursday, August 20th at 5:30 PM at Town Hall. A public hearing will also be held at the same time, giving residents a chance to weigh in on the project.

If the proposal makes it through all the approvals and legal hurdles, BJ’s could bring new life to the former Macy’s location at Sangertown Square.

The plans would transform the empty department store space into the new warehouse club and even add a gas station in the parking lot area near Seneca Turnpike.

No word yet on what will happen with the existing BJ’s Wholesale Club in North Utica if the New Hartford location moves forward. Will both locations stick around, or would the new store replace the current one?
