And I'm off.  Well, almost.  The ADA Tour de Cure at Verona Beach State Park June 3rd, has officially kicked-off and the goal this year is $250,000, 725 riders and 100 volunteers.  It's all an effort to stop diabetes.

Riders
During the kick-off at Schuss Ski & Bike Shop, there were returning riders like Sharon, who was honored for her fundraising efforts last year.  Sharon rides for all the people in her family who have passed away from diabetes and all the people still living with the disease.  There were also riders as apprehensive about getting on a bike as I am, including PJ who is on the 'Pedalin' With Polly Wogg' team. She's riding for her husband.

I'm Riding For
I’m riding for my father in law who had diabetes and passed away over a year ago and Bigg Vinny from Trailer Choir who suffered from Type 2 diabetes before going on ‘The Biggest Loser.’  If he can go from over 400 pounds to less than 200, I can ride 15 miles – I hope.

How You Can Help
You can get involved to stop this deadly disease too.  You can still sign up to ride on the 'Pedalin With Polly Wogg' team by clicking the link.  And if you use the password FROG all in caps, you'll get $10 off your registration.  You can also support the Tour de Cure by donating and as a way to say thanks we'll put your name into a raffle to win the bike I'll be riding from Schuss, FrogFest tickets with backstage passes or a guitar signed by Joe Nichols. You can also volunteer by calling 315-438-8687 EXT3663.

Not sure if you can bike 15 miles?  Join the club!  PJ and myself are a little worried too but several free training sessions with Dan at Schuss will be set up at Paragon Athletic Club in New Hartford to get our team ready for the big day.  Check back for more information coming soon.

So if you can't ride, give what you can to stop this deadly disease.  Every dollar counts.
