Nike celebrated Back to the Future Day by sending Michael J Fox the first pair of self-lacing shoes.
Made famous in the second installment of the Back to the Future trilogy, the Nike Mag shoes are the dream of Marty McFly fans everywhere. Nike released a pair of the futuristic shoes in 2011 that had lights, but no power laces. They sold for $37,500. Nike also hosted a 10-day auction of 1,500 limited edition 2011 Nike MAG shoes to benefit Michael J. Fox Foundation. The auction raised more than $9.4 million.
Fan will have to wait for their own pair of MAG shoes. Nike will create more to support the Michael J Fox Foundation in 2016.
Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield sent Fox a letter. "We wanted you to be the first to receive a pair… In addition to your personal pair, we’re creating more pairs for support in aid of the Foundation in 2016.”
