Harden Furniture, one the oldest furniture manufacturers in U.S. is being sold to the highest bidder.

The 5th generation company in McConnellsville is having it's assets sold under an article 9 auction. Bids for the furniture manufacturer will be accepted until January 31st.

"My hope is that we wind up with a new ownership group that is willing to make the investment that needs to be made in the company so we can enjoy additional growth and another 174 years,” Harden told Furniture Today.

Charles S. Harden, Sr. began the company after purchasing a sawmill in 1844. Greg Harden is now CEO of the company he hopes will stay in central New York. “I don’t want to see it liquidated and I don’t think it will be,” Harden tells Business Journal.

Harden Furniture employees 175 people, many from the local community that have been there for generations as well.
