No More Free Checking Accounts For Bank of America Customers with Low Balances
Say goodbye to free checking at Bank of America if you have a low balance in your account. Ebank customers will now have a monthly fee if they don't have $1,500 in their account or make a direct deposit of $250 or more each month.
The monthly $12 fee is not sitting well with customers and one has started a petition asking everyone to let Bank of America know "this is unfair to their customers that have been loyal to them for years. Tell Bank of America to not end their fee free checking accounts."
The petition already has over 65,000 signatures.
Mel San, who started the petition, says "many low income families do not meet these requirements. There have been times where I've only had $10 to my name. That wouldn't even cover the maintenance fee."
The new Bank of America checking account fee went into effect January 18th.
