What's going on with Papa John? 5 restaurants have suddenly closed in western New York.

All 5 of the Papa John's restaurants closed in Rochester yesterday according to Rochester First. Customers arrived to a locked door with a note:

"It saddens me to say that effective immediately, Papa John's will no longer be operating in Rochester, NY. We will not be the last to fall under this business climate."

There has been news that 2 of the 3 Papa John's locations in Buffalo also closed in 2015, having yet to re-open leaving just one Papa Johns location still operating in Buffalo.

This isn't the first time the pizza chain has closed up shop in New York state. Last October a location in Syracuse also closed after being in operation since 2008 according to Syracuse.com.

The New Hartford store closed in 2016 to re-open under new local ownership, and is in no threat of closing, sharing no ties with the Western New York franchise owner.
