I knew that by the time Ed Kranepool retired as a New York Met at the end of the 1979 season there were no surprises left for him surrounding the organization. Remsen's Erin Hamlin threw out the first pitch at the NY Mets game at Citi Field. Although it wasn't a strike, it at least made it to the plate. It was probably the weight of that bronze medal she had around her neck.

The Major League Baseball 2012 regular season gets underway tonight, when the Miami Marlins host the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:05 p.m. on ESPN. Of course, this year's regular season opened last week in Japan, with the  Seattle Mariners and Oakland A's splitting a two-game series.
