Rome ready to show off what's going on downtown with First Fridays. You could say today is the first, first. A group of non-profit and civic organizations formed a task force to promote entertainment and family oriented events on the first Friday of every month, July thru October.  Here's what will be going on tonight in downtown Rome.

The group is called PACT, an acronym for Parks, Art, Culture, and Tourism. Their goal is to bring life back to the downtown area, including the City Hall Green, Capitol Theater, Rome Historical Society, and Fort Stanwix National Monument.  It all coincides with the move of the Famer's Market to downtown earlier this year. Most of the events are free of charge and begin around 5 tonight.

  • Drum discovery with Gary's Music and Legalize It! CNY info booth.
  • Local artwork and heirloom vegetables at the Sidewalk Artisan Sale at Brenda's Natural Foods.
  • Enjoy chocolate covered fruit tasting at Engleberts in partnership with Edible Arrangements.

The Reach Center will host an open drawing/painting session with easels and model provided from 5-7 p.m. It will also include an Americana themed chocolate lounge with ice coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available throughout the day.

Ft. Stanwix will also host several free activities including guided tours from 6 a.m. to 6:45 tonight. Two sessions of live Colonial music at 5:15 and 7 p.m. The man who built the Fort will also host a film followed by a Q&A session at 6.

There's also a rooftop yoga class atop the North James Street Parking Street, it costs $10. Get more details about First Fridays at PACT's Facebook page.
