The long awaited, highly anticipated and--to some--dreaded Oneida Square roundabout officially opened yesterday. As a lifelong roundabout hater I decided to approach the new rotary for a first hand look at the intricacies, entrances and exits. However....

As I approached from the State Street side my feeling of dread overwhelmed me and I pulled into the Dunkin Donuts parking lot. At that point I decided to pull out a map and look for an alternate route. According to a story in the Utica Observer Dispatch there are still some finishing touches to be completed but traffic is moving albeit at a cautious pace.

Work still to be completed includes:

--Installation of sidewalks

--Electrical work by National Grid

--Landscaping the middle of the roundabout.

A word to the wise; be careful approaching and exiting as these can be tricky at first.
