Easter Candy Trivia

The Easter Bunny is on his way, filling those Easter baskets with traditional favorite candies.  So, I thought you might find a little Easter candy trivia interesting.

EASTER CANDY FACTS

* The first chocolate eggs were made in Europe in the early 19th century and remain among the most popular treats associated with Easter.

* According to the Guinness World Records, the largest Easter egg ever made was slightly more than 25 feet high and made of chocolate and marshmallow. The egg weighed 8,968 pounds and was supported by an internal steel frame.

* In a recent survey of 1,000 adults, 80 percent of parents said they plan to put together Easter Baskets for their children; 90 percent of the adults said they also are looking forward to indulging in Easter candy.

* Over 180 million Cadbury's Creme Eggs are sold between January and Easter each year - that's more than three Creme Eggs for every man, woman, and child in the U.S.

* 16 billion jelly beans are made for Easter.

* Jellybeans probably were first made in the United States by Boston candy maker William Schrafft, who ran advertisements urging people to send jellybeans to soldiers fighting in the Civil War. Jellybeans did not become an Easter tradition until the 1930s.

* Children's favorite Easter Jellybean flavors are; Cherry (20 percent), Strawberry (12 percent), and Grape (10 percent), followed by Lime and Blueberry.

* 90 million chocolate Easter Bunnies are produced each year. (National Confectioners Association)

* Yellow Peeps are the most popular, followed by pink, lavender, blue and white.

* Each Peep has 32 calories (160 calories per five-chick serving) and 0 fat grams.
