Being a First Responder isn't the only thing Fred Sherman does.

Fred Sherman is the Assistant chief for the Westernville Fire Department. Through every hour of the day, Fred manages fire and EMS calls all while taking care of his wife at home. If that isn't enough to make Fred deserving of the recognition on First Responder Friday presented by Jiffy Lube, there is more.

Fred also gives back through a local charity, Believe 271. With that foundation, Fred is the Vice President. According to his nominator, when a job needs to get done, Fred will get it done alongside his Westernville Fire Department family. His heart and soul will get poured into whatever it is he does. Time is a valuable thing, and Fred also gives his time assisting in fundraisers and assisting with events that directly support volunteer firefighters battling cancer and life-threatening illness. Thank you, Fred!

Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in Central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers, front line workers, or any other person first on the scene.

Include their name, a picture, and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday." We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them an oil change from Jiffy Lube on Commercial Drive in New Hartford and a Bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
