One of the best parts about Halloween is definitely the candy! What other day of the year can you go to a stranger's front door and ask for free treats? Having said that, your child is still going to a stranger's door to ask for candy. Because of that it's important to remember some of the safety precautions you need to take when it comes to Trick or Treating.

The CDC website has a complete list of important safety tips, but we thought we would give you the ones that are MOST important.

  1. Fasten Reflective tape or other materials to your child's costume so that drivers can easily see them (especially on dark costumes).
  2. Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.
  3. Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.
  4. Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.
  5. Enter homes only if you're with a trusted adult. Only visit well-lit houses. Never accept rides from strangers.

This holiday is meant to be fun, but you never know when someone will try and tamper with candy or be doing a little too much 'celebrating' on Halloween night. It's important to always stay vigilant. Being that Halloween is on a Saturday this year, you have to be extra cautious. Having said all of that, be sure to have fun and Happy Trick or Treating!
