Army Staff Sergeant Ty Michael Carter was today awarded the Medal of Honor By President Obama for his extraordinarily heroic actions during a Taliban assault on Combat Post Keating in Afghanistan in October of 2009. His story exemplifies the courage and sacrifice shouldered each and everyday by our service men and women in uniform. Here is the official awarding of the medal as provided by The Pentagon Channel.

Staff Sargeant Carter is the 5th living recipient of the Medal of Honor awarded for their actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. The story of Combat Outpost Keating was told in the best-selling book "The Outpost" by CNN's Jake Tapper, a book I read and heartily recommend.
