Rescue Crews Working to Free 17 Trapped Miners at Cargill Salt Mines
UPDATE: All miners were safely rescued by 8:30am.

Rescue efforts are underway at Cargill Salt Mines in Lansing, New York after 17 miners became trapped.

Cargill spokesman, Mark Klein, tells WHCU "17 workers who were beginning a shift at the facility Wednesday night were on their way into the mine, and became stuck at the 900 foot level off Portland Point Road."
Updates are being given on the Tompkins County Emergency Response Twitter page.
The 3rd basket with another 4 have been brought to the surface, 12 of 17 are now out.

Each trip down the shaft to rescue a few miners at a time takes 45 minutes. None of the miners have been injured.
Technical Rescue Experts from the Ithaca Fire Department are assisting the Lansing Fire Department.
Cargill Salt Mine is located north of Ithaca on Portland Point Road.
