Over 6 Feet of Snow in One Upstate New York Town a Week Before Winter Even Begins
The first big snowfall of the season in central New York dumped anywhere from a few inches to a foot, but we have nothing on one upstate New York town where they snow over your head a week before Winter even begins.
Redfield, New York in the Tug Hill Plateau saw 47.7 inches of snow in 4 days, bringing the total to 76.8. Carol Yerdon a National Weather Service Weather Observer in Redfield says they had 89 inches at this time last year. "It's not enough to set a record, but it's enough to play in."
Last Winter ended with 351.1 inches of snow in Redfield, well short of the record set during the 96/97 at 424.5 inches. Yerdon says residents are use to living in a place you don't shovel driveways, but roofs. "You just have to embrace it."
I don't know about you but they can keep it. Last year's Winter Storm Stella that hit CNY was bad enough with 36 inches of snow in Utica. I can't imagine 300 inches!
