The Mohawk River Tail is a beautiful destination in Rome. With Spring on the way and all the outdoor activities that go with it, Rome P.D. is passing along some helpful safety tips.
The Mohawk River Trail is an excellent place for walkers, joggers, cyclists, even photographers. Here are some safety tips to follow while enjoying your time on the river trail.
Tell friends or family the route you will be taking, and travel with a partner if possible.
Carry identification and a cell phone.
Be aware of your surroundings and others around you.
Pets should be kept on a short leash, and owners should clean up after their pets.
Bicyclists should use a bell or horn to announce their presence when approaching pedestrians and utilize head and tail lights for night time.
Bicyclists should travel at a safe speed at all times.
Those using headphones should keep the volume at a level where you can still hear bike bells and warnings from other walkers and runners.
Any trash that you create, please make sure it finds its way to a trash can.
Captain Tim Bates of the Rome Police Department says " Rome PD does maintain a police presence on the Mohawk River Trail with foot and bike patrols, but it's always a good idea to follow our safety tips."
