Josh Abbott’s Wedding Song for His New Wife Is Romance Exactly [Watch]
When Josh Abbott — frontman and namesake of the Josh Abbott Band — married his love Taylor Parnell at the Brazos Hall in Austin, Texas July 8, it turns out he had an extraordinarily personal gift for his bride. He wrote a song just for her, and performed it at the ceremony.
In a video documenting the special moment, Abbott addresses his new wife before their friends and family. "I wanted to write Taylor a song for this week, for this event, for this awesome life moment we can share with all of you. I wrote the first verse a few days ago...I wrote the rest of it this morning," he admitted, to laughter from the guests.
Due to his last-minute composing, Abbott needed to check the song's lyrics on his phone as he strummed an acoustic guitar, but he seemed to have it down. He sang a one-stanza ballad with chorus, which was packed full of sentiment for his bride:
"Surrounded by our family and friends/Two rings exchanged as tokens of love
Soon we'll be proclaimed/To share the same last name/And the angels will be singing from above
I do love you/And I'll strive to tell you every day
When the waters are rough/And the storm's at the sea/Remember, you were tailor-made for me."
Unsurprisingly, the new Mrs. Abbott—and most likely many in the crowd, as well— had to wipe away a few tears by the end of her husband's song.
The video created of the touching serenade, which can be watched above, includes footage from the wedding ceremony, as well as shots of Taylor and the couple's baby daughter Emery (who was the flower girl) getting ready for the big day in their finery.
Following the song, the video also documents speeches from wedding guests complimenting the pair's strong love for each other, the couple's first kiss and first dance as husband and wife, slicing of the wedding cake, and other landmark moments.
Perhaps Abbott's brother said it best in a toast: "I've never seen Josh this happy."
The new Mr. and Mrs. Abbott spent their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the site where they fell in love two years ago.
