New Hartford teen Alex Kogut will be laid to rest today.  The funeral for the SUNY Brockport student who was killed in her dorm room will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford at noon. Hugh R. Jones Elementary School in Utica is closing at 11:00 o’clock today to allow staff and students to attend the funeral and pay their respects.

An online guestbook for those wishing to express condolences to the family has been set up.  Everyone is also being encouraged to wear purple tomorrow in honor of Alex.   The following was posted on a Facebook page set up Remembering Alex Kogut.

Please help Utica College Physical Therapy Society spread awareness of Domestic Violence and in remembrance of Alexandra.  On October 5, 2012 we would like to honor and remember Alexandra Kogut by wearing purple. Please do spread the word and wear purple on Friday. It would be awesome to see a “sea of purple” all over the area. This event is open to anyone that would like to remember Alexandra and create awareness for Domestic Violence.

Purple bracelets reading 'Love Shouldn't Hurt' are being sold at MVCC for $1. Friends are sharing pictures of the candlelight vigil held earlier this week for Alex. Hannah Rayhill posted this touching picture from the vigil .

It isn't just Central New York remembering Alex.  This Facebook picture came all the way from Miami.
