Frost Advisory And Freeze Warning Issued In Central New York

As temperatures dip into the 30's tonight, The National Weather Service out of Binghamton has issued a frost advisory and even a freeze warning in certain areas of Central New York.

A frost advisory for late tonight has been issued for northern Oneida County in NY. Patchy frost is possible in Delaware County, NY, late tonight. After tonight, the next chance of frost will be Friday night.

TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures around 30 to 32 expected.

* WHERE...Northern Herkimer and Hamilton Counties.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 9 AM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Typically, frost can occur when the temperature falls below 36°F, especially in rural areas. It is a localized event and can be quite variable across a small area. Frost becomes more widespread when the temperature falls below 32°F with some freeze possible. A hard freeze is possible when temperatures fall below 28°F.
