Every Friday we salute First Responders, the people who run toward danger and put their own well-being on the line to make sure we're safe. This week we salute New Hartford Patrolman, Jeff Emerson.

Just as Andy Griffith used to teach Barney Fife, there's more to being an officer than enforcing laws and making arrests. Jeff exemplifies those words with his actions everyday. He's been serving with the New Hartford Police Department for 5 and a half years.

Cheryl who nominated Patrolman Emerson calls him one of the most dedicated, hard-working, compassionate police officers she knows. "He will stop to help out someone with a broken down car, if they are looking for lost pets or family members. He goes above & beyond every day to keep people safe."

And as the picture shows, he loves working with kids during the "Shop With A Cop." Jeff, thanks for what you do keeping us all safe. And especially doing it with care and compassion for the residents of New Hartford.

Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers or any other person first on the scene.

Include their name, a picture and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday,' presented by Martin, Harding & Mazzotti.

We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them a Bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
