Each week we salute First Responders who are running toward the danger when most of us would be headed the other way. This week we salute, Matthew Tomasik with the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department and COCVAC.

Nominated by Meg, she calls Matt "one of the most dedicated firemen I know." Matt  answers calls with the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department and volunteers his time at Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps as an Emergency Vehicle Operator. He is also studying to become an EMT.

While those duties more than qualifies Matt as a First Responder, he performs those tasks around driving a bus for the Whitesboro School District and dabbling at his own landscaping business.

Matt thanks for what you do in a true volunteer basis, while studying to expand your skills and keeping CNY students safe on the way to school and back.

Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers or any other person first on the scene.

Include their name, a picture and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday,' presented by Martin, Harding & Mazzotti.

We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them a bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
