Each week we salute First Responders who are running toward the danger when most of us would be headed the other way. This week we salute, Gary Reese Jr with  the Volunteer Fire Company of Western.

Gary has been a part of the fire service volunteering since he was 16 years-old. He currently serves as interior firefighter and an EMT with department in Westernville. More than a repsonder, Gary is a teacher too.

He takes an active role in Fire Prevention and Education with students at community schools and shares a special bond with the classes at NYSSD as he has a partial hearing loss too.  Gary also remembers his fallen brethren, participating in the CNY Memorial Stair Climb honoring those who perished in the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Gary thanks for what you do, and for passing along your knowledge so others can help too.

Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers or any other person first on the scene.

Include their name, a picture and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday,' presented by Martin, Harding & Mazzotti.

We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them a bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
