First Responder Friday – Kenneth Palmer Mohawk Fire Department
Every Friday we honor the people who help us during our darkest times, often running toward danger when most of us would be going the other direction. This week we send the First Responder Friday salute to Kenneth Palmer with the Mohawk Fire Department.
It seems even more appropriate than usual we salute a First Responder on the 19th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks. We often speak of EMTs, Firemen, and other service peoples who have served for 20 or 25 years. It would be difficult to find someone serving more than this week's honoree, Kenneth Palmer.
Kenneth turns 84 this month, and celebrated his 62nd year as a volunteer firefighter in July. As you would imagine, he has wore many hats over the course of his career. At the Mohawk Fire Department, Kenneth has served as the Fire Chief, Chaplain, Chief Chaplain for NYS Fire Association, training officer as well as the Chaplain for Newport Fire Department.
His daughter, Karen nominated Ken for our First Responder honor saying he is a true hero and taught her the true meaning of dedication, inspiration, unconditional love, faith, and passion.
To this day my father still goes to fire calls and to me his dedication goes without saying. He has committed the majority of his life to help and save others.
Kenneth has even been recognized in the halls of congress for his dedication to service.
Kenneth thanks for what you do, and for teaching others your skills and know-how to others. Even more for your life-long dedication to helping others.
Do you know a first responder that deserves to be recognized? Tell us about someone who should be honored in central New York - a firefighter, police officer, EMT, forest ranger, paramedic, DEC officers, military, rescuers or any other person first on the scene.
Include their name, a picture and why they should be recognized during 'First Responder Friday,' presented by Martin, Harding & Mazzotti.
We'll honor one first responder every Friday and as a way to say thank you, we'll give them a bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes.
