The Super Bowl halftime show hasn't seen a country artist perform since Shania Twain in 2003. I don't know why it is that one of America's most popular genres of music continues to be snubbed for the honor of performing during football's biggest night. In the history of Super Bowl performances there has only ever been six country artists to take the stage.

During Super Bowl XXIV in New Orleans, the 40th Anniversary of Peanuts was the theme and famous country fiddler Doug Kershaw did participate in the entertainment.

2. Rockin Country Sunday - Super Bowl XXVIII

During Super Bowl XXVIII Country Music was the main focus for the halftime show and it rocked! You had some of the biggest names in the genre at that time including Wynonna, Travis Tritt, Clint Black, and Tanya Tucker. Imagine who it would be performing if they did a modern Rockin' Country Sunday! Can you picture Carrie, Blake, Luke, Tim, or even Garth? Wow! What a show that would be!

3. Shania Twain - Super Bowl XXXVII

In 2003 it was Shania Twain who kicked off the Super Bowl halftime show. She did two of her biggest hits to that point "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" and "Up!" She did not own the whole show however. She was joined by 'No Doubt' and 'Sting.' Shania is the last country artist to perform at the big game.

I don't know when the next Country artist will be asked to perform, but darn it it should be soon. There were rumors that Carrie Underwood was going to be offered the gig, but with her getting pregnant it may not have worked out. Let's just ban together as country fans and cross our fingers that Super Bowl 50 will feature a Nashville star.
