What was your most memorable year? For Bindi Irwin, it was 2006 when she lost her father Steve Irwin. Bindi honored him with a beautiful tribute on 'Dancing with the Stars.'

Bindi, who hasn't spoken publicly about her father's death, finally opened up during most memorable year week on the reality show.

"What shaped me the most was probably the year my dad passed away. It's been 9 years and I've never really dwelled on that point that he did pass away. I think I'm ready to tell that story," she tells her dance partner Derek Hough.

Bindi always looked up to her father. "I can remember being little thinking I want to grow up to be just like dad and I still feel like that."

The loss of a loved one is unimaginable and the pain never goes away. "It took a really long time to understand what happened. For the rest of my life, I'll kind of feel like he's going to come home," Bindi says through her tears.

Irwin may be gone, but he lives on through his family. "No matter where I go, dad will always be with me. His spirit lives on."

Irwin died on 4 September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming an underwater documentary film. He was only 44 years-old.

Bindi's beautiful contemporary tribute will leave you in tears. The dance received the first perfect score of the season.
