April 19, 2013 I don't know if kids still do this but I remember when I was in grade school I would see a lot of the girls outside skipping rope before class. October 17, 2012 On this day in 1941, the penalty flag was first introduced into the game of football in the U.S.A.. Before the penalty flag, referees used horns and whistles to indicate an infraction, but the problem was that the fans didn't know that the game stopped because of a penalty.
October 2, 2012 I have to admit I don't watch very much tennis on TV but when I have tuned in I am sometimes amused, sometimes irritated by the grunting and screeching employed by some of the worlds best women's tennis players including the most prominent offender Maria Sharapova. October 1, 2012 Keith Hernandez is known for two things. First and foremost as a star first baseman for the New York Mets from 1983 to 1989. Secondly as having one of the best mustaches in all of sports. However the famed Hernandez 'stache is no more. According to CBS, Hernandez had his famed "tickler" lopped off for charity, specifically the Jacqueline Hernandez Adult Day Health Center in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, named for Keith’s mother. June 30, 2012 There is a scene in the movie "Field of Dreams" where one of the characters asks "Is this heaven?" to which Ray, the main character responds, "No, it's Iowa". That could well be a scene out of the life of Rome's Joe Melioris who is following his baseball dream this season with the Cedar Rapids Kernals of the Class A Midwest League. According to a story in the Utica O-D Joe is truly "livin' the dream".
June 2, 2012 The Utica Brewers, 2011 New York College Baseball League and National Amateur Baseball League champions, open up their 2012 campaign tonight at 7 at Murnane Field. According to their website the Brewers will host the Syracuse Salt Cats, weather permitting.
