He was "The King of Rock and Roll", "Elvis the Pelvis" and the "Tupelo, Mississippi Flash". He was many things to many people but, above all, he was an American icon. Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 and took the world by storm before his 20th birthday. Sadly, he passed away at age 42 in 1977. There have been postage stamps depicting the "young" Elvis and the "old" Elvis but this is the way I care to remember him.

Elvis Remembered

This weekend was Elvis Presley Birthday Celebration weekend at Graceland in Memphis. A number of events were held to commemorate the 76th anniversary of his birth including special tours, remembrances from close friends and a Saturday night concert by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra performing  many of his hits. Although best known as the "King of Rock and Roll" Elvis was also a very successful country artist chalking up 11 #1 songs on the Billboard Country charts.
