It's a Porcupine! The Utica Zoo's population grew by 2 with the birth of baby porcupines. I know they say all babies are cute, but these guys look like tiny punk rockers with their blonde mohawks. Check out the videos and pictures.

Officially they are African Crested Porcupines, as babies they are referred to as porcupettes. The parents are Mother, Kutarna and Dad Darius, both have been in Utica for about 6 or 7 years.  And the two newbies have a half-brother in Joey who is the porcupine that you see out at several of the Zoo's events.

Born with soft quills, the babies are kept in seclusion until they become sharper and harder for their protection. You can see them in person at the Murphy Vulture Exhibit, next door to the lions from 10 until 2 each day.
