We've known for years that trees are good for the world. They provide shade, home for birds, release oxygen into the atmosphere and make for more attractive neighborhoods. Now, a new study by the U.S. Forest Service indicates that trees may deter burglars.

According to the study, less crime occurs in neighborhoods with big trees in the yards and near the streets. Apparently, areas that have smaller trees have higher occurrences of crime. The thought is that perhaps burglars feel that those residential areas with larger, older trees are homes that are better cared for, making it more likely that criminals will be caught.

So, plant a tree today, and hopefully discourage a burglary in your neighborhood tomorrow.
