We live in a historic region in the Mohawk Valley, and during the summertime, many of the sites are destinations for vacationers. Today, we learned that one of those historic attractions has received the funding to remain open.

According to our sister station, WIBX:

"The General Herkimer Home, threatened by budgetary issues last year, will remain open.

State Senator James Seward and Assemblyman Marc Butler have jointly announced the procurement of 100-thousand dollars in the new state budget to keep the historic site open.

Both legislators say that the focus now needs to be on ensuring that the home remains a tourist destination.

The Herkimer Home’s Annual Sugaring Off Celebration, which marks the start of its tourist season, will be held on Sunday April 15th from 1:00pm – 4:00pm."
