UPDATE: Jenna Hinman passed away after a two month cancer battle.

Ft Drum US Army SGT Brandon Hinman puts his life on the line every day for his country, but now it’s his family fighting for their lives after his wife, Jenna Hinman delivered two premature daughters before being diagnosed with a rare pregnancy related cancer.

Hinman, who is from Weedsport, just returned from Afghanistan to celebrate the upcoming birth of his twins, due May 10th. Monday March 10th, Hinman’s wife Jenna, a Port Byron native, started having early contractions and was taken to the hospital.  After an emergency C-section, Hinman’s daughters, Azlynn and Kinleigh were born at 7:55am, weighing only 3.6 and 2.6 pounds. Hinman says his girls are ‘breathing on their own and doing well. I go up and hold them a couple times a day. They’re surviving. They’re fighting, just like their mother.’

Jenna suffered a rare pregnancy related cancer called choriocarcinoma, that Hinman says ‘hides in the placenta through the entire pregnancy and as soon as you deliver it shoots through your body and destroys everything.

"All three of my girls are in ICU so I live my life minute to minute. They’re my world"Jenna’s cancer is in stage 3 and is complicated by a chest/lung infection, which has caused internal bleeding.  She’s in a medically induced coma, receiving heavy doses of chemotherapy.  ‘She’s stable right now. I just need her to keep fighting to let the chemo get time to work,’ prays her husband who is fighting by her side.

Time passes slowly for Hinman who can only sit, wait and pray for his family. ‘All three of my girls are in ICU so I live my life minute to minute. They’re my world.’

"This is only the second living case of a patient that’s made it this far. They call my wife a walking miracle"Himan says his wife’s prognosis is ‘day to day. This is only the second living case of a patient that’s made it this far. They call my wife a walking miracle.

Miracles continue to poor in for the Hinman’s from family, friends and complete strangers just wanting to help.  A Facebook page has been set up, ‘Prayer for Jenna’ along with a fundraising campaign at GoFundMe.com/thehinmanfund to help with medical bills, since money is the last thing this family should have to worry about. Over $28,000 has been raised in just two days.

Himan is not the kind of guy to ask for help but says ‘the bottom line is I need it. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.’

The least we can do is support the family of a man who fights for our freedom. Whether it’s a prayer or a donation, the Hinman family can use all the support they can get.
