Tucker Beathard Talks Halloween Costumes, New Music Ahead of Upstate NY Show

Tucker Beathard has been through a whirlwind since his first single, "Rock On," debuted in 2016. After a falling out with his label, Dot Records, Tucker was largely rebuilding and creating as an independent artist until he signed a new deal with Warner Music Nashville earlier this year.
“It’s been a crazy journey so far. I learned pretty quick that no deal is better than the wrong deal and that was kind of the position I was in," Tucker said. "It was like 'Man, screw this, I’m gonna just be an independent artist at this point' and [I] just kind of bought my way out and made my debut album on my own last summer.”
Now about to kick off his leg of Kip Moore's Room to Spare tour this week with the second date at Ithaca's State Theatre, Tucker is ready to showcase whatever music his fans want to hear.
"It’s just me and a guitar, so I kinda just wing it, to some extent," Tucker said. "[Fans] will yell out random songs that I’ve posted on YouTube or this or that. I like to give them what they ask for.”
Amidst a collection of new music, one particular single Tucker released in May stands out as a chill-inducing masterpiece. He said if it's not his favorite song he's written, "Find Me Here" is definitely up there.
"I was like 19 when I jumped into the business and it’s really easy to get caught up in the sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll thing and I found out pretty quick that it kind of leaves you more empty at the end of the day," Tucker said. "Songwriting for me has always been my therapy, my outlet, and that’s just kind of the time and place I was [at] in my life and I channeled it all in that song.”
Tucker's show at the State Theatre this Friday hits right at the peak of fall in upstate New York, so it's fitting that we'd get to talking about Halloween. While Tucker isn't super dedicated to dressing up nowadays, he, like all of us, has a favorite costume from his childhood.
"I remember one year—I was like 8—I was like super, super excited about being a skeleton pirate," Tucker said. "My mom hooked me up and got some pretty good things and, at the time, I felt like I was the coolest kid on the street.”
And on the subject of fall, I hate to break it to you... Tucker isn't a big fan of pumpkin-flavored everything, although he does like pumpkin muffins.
