The Utica Blue Sox Are Set To Wear Pink For An Amazing Reason
For a team with the color blue in their name, it may seem odd to don pink for a night. But the reasoning is incredible.
Being a summer collegiate league, the Utica Blue Sox aren't able to experience October baseball. One thing that goes along with October is the fact that it is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Well, the Blue Sox are showing their support for anyone who has battled or is currently battling breast cancer by wearing pink jerseys in July for one night.
This will be the third annual Pink The Park. Not only will they be wearing pink, but fans are also encouraged to wear pink as well. Also, local cancer survivors will get free admission into the game on Saturday, July 24th. Prior to the game, there will be a special ceremony held for those who have survived cancer.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with the Utica Blue Sox and have the support of our local Hannaford Supermarkets for this special night of awareness and fundraising ,” said Robert Elinskas, Sr Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society. “This event has grown to become a community favorite and we’re excited to be able to hold it this year.”
There will also be bidding on the player's jerseys starting at $50. You can check out the Utica Blue Sox website to place a bid for it. Each dollar raised will go to help the American Cancer Society with research and to provide patients who are in need of vital support.
Don't forget, the American Cancer Society will be also be holding their annual Relay For Life Event on July 31st at MVCC in Utica. Get a team together and show everyone who is battling cancer, that they are truly not battling it alone. Find out more information about Relay For Life here.
