One of the worst qualities a person can have is bad breath. Bad breath usually comes in the morning and after meals, which is normal, but if you have constant bad breath there is a reason for it and you need to consider making a few changes to prevent it.

A recent article on The Men's Health website explains the three main things you need to do to prevent this major turn-off. Chewing gum, sucking on a mint, and even brushing teeth alone may not be enough! According to the article the root of most cases of bad breath is what's called "volatile sulfur compounds" or "VSC."

Volatile sulfur compounds are thought to arise from the interaction of oral bacteria that occurs in conditions like gum disease and infections, and within pockets and crevices of your teeth.

So, to properly care for your teeth and mouth simply take these three easy steps every day.

  1. Clean Your Tongue. This will help break-up the bacteria that causes the foul odor. You can either brush the tongue or get a tongue scraper at any drug store.
  2. Brush AND Floss Twice a Day. This one is pretty obvious, but some people may only do these two things once a day. By doing both twice daily, you will remove more  of the tiny food particles and microorganisms that can lead to those volatile sulfur compounds.
  3. Keep Your Mouth Well Hydrated. You want to avoid "dry-mouth." You need moisture on your tongue and in your mouth to help wash away that natural bacteria and food particles that want to form.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Oral hygiene is so important. If you have bad teeth or gums it may lead to difficulties when it comes to having a simple surgery or worse. Infections in the mouth can spread to many other parts of the body. For more information on better oral health visit the Men's Health Article.
