What flowers give you the most "bang for your buck" so to speak?  There's lots of factors to consider, including the finicky CNY weather.  The Master Gardeners at Cornell Cooperative Extension have three suggestions.

The Master Gardener Volunteers participate in All-America Selections as a Display Garden.

AAS is an independent, non-profit organization that evaluates new plant varieties for qualities such as bloom time, tolerance to disease and pests, flower color, and overall performance.

You can see these flowers in action at CCE's Brick Annual Flower Garden that features a variety of AAS flowers. Here are 3 AAS Award winners that are perfect for CNY.

Red Petunia (annual), Tidal Wave Red Velour - 2015 AAS award winner.

This petunia has large, deep red velvety blooms. Wave petunias are vigorous, spreading plants that rarely need deadheading so they are a great choice for the busy gardener. These flowers flourish in full sun, moderate moisture.
