A 17 year-old woman is facing second degree attempted murder charges after a baby was left inside a plastic bag for three days in Elmira, New York.

Harriette Hoyt was arrested after an investigation and was sent to the Chemung County jail.

On Tuesday, August 8th neighbors discovered the baby girl behind a home on Walnut street in Elmira after hearing strange noises. They called 911 and administered aid until help arrived. The baby was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, according to Elmira Police.

"Her legs were just dangling in the bag, her head was in the bag, her whole head was covered all the way down. I tore it," Kayla Seals, who rescued the baby girl told WENY.

Elmira police along with the Chemung County Child Protective Services, New York State Police and Chemung County District Attorney's Office continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call Elmira Police at 607-737-5626.
