Syracuse Man with Machete Charged
Well this isn't creepy at all... said no one ever.
Syracuse police found a man carrying a machete and scraping it against the concrete last Thursday night on the 1900 block of Lodi Street. Luckily, 26-year-old Maurice Brown was detained at the scene and has now been charged.
Police detained Brown after he ignored Officer Nicklaus Hilts' initial orders to drop the machete, Officer Joe Commisso, a spokesman for the department, told Syracuse.com. Commisso said Brown instead started advancing toward Hilts with the machete. When Hilts ordered him to drop the machete a second time, Brown complied and officers were able to secure him in handcuffs, Commisso told Syracuse.com.
Brown was charged with second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for the machete, Commisso told Syracuse.com.
Machetes made the list of dangerous weapons and became illegal to use as one in 2016, where it joined kung-fu stars, switchblade knives and others, according to Syracuse.com.
