Snow it Begins! First Flakes of the Season Fall in the Tug Hill Region

Snow it begins! The first flakes of the season have already started falling in central New York.

Accumulating snow started in the Tug Hill region last night. Barrows Performance in Constableville shared video of the October snow flakes.

A few flakes are also starting to fall at the base of Whiteface Mountain.

More accumulating snow is possible in central New York. Rain may mix or change over to snow according to the National Weather Service Thursday night into Friday morning. Luckily the weather looks nice for Halloween trick or treating with temperatures in the mid 40s to lowers 50s.

Get the skis and snowboards ready. It won't be long before outdoor enthusiasts hit the slopes. Just remember to bring your masks, that will be required while riding chairlifts, and to social distance while on the hill.

Governor Andrew Cuomo released a few mandatory rules, regulations and safety precautions for ski resorts in New York when they open for the season.

• Masks Required When Not Eating, Drinking or Skiing
• Gondolas and Lifts Restricted to Members of the Same Party
• Ski lessons limited to no more than 10 people
• Thorough Cleaning and Disinfection of Rented Equipment
• Shuttles and food services must conform to guidance
• Reduced mountain capacity limited to 25% on "peak days"

It looks like we'll have lots of snow to enjoy this winter. Wetter-than-average conditions are likely across the northern tier of the U.S., including the Great Lakes region according to The Weather Channel's long range outlook.
