31 Speed Cameras Out for July 4th Travel, 10 Target Central New York Roads

Construction season is in full swing across New York, which means so are the state's automated work zone speed cameras.

31 cameras will be out on 21 roads leading into the July 4th holiday travel weekend. 10 of them are in Central New York.

The cameras move to different road projects every week, and if you're not paying attention to those reduced speed limits, a ticket could show up in your mailbox.

Speed Cameras Are Watching in Work Zones

The Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement program was created to slow drivers down and protect highway workers.

The cameras are set up in active construction zones and can capture speeding vehicles and license plates automatically.

Drivers caught speeding receive a notice in the mail.

First Violation: $50 fine
Second Violation: $75 fine within 18 months
Third and Additional Violations: $100 fine within 18 months
