A Central New York fire department is making a huge difference, not just during their day-to-day calls, but also with this fundraiser that raised nearly $7,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Rome IAFF #694 Fire Department took to an intersection in Rome last Friday to "Fill the Boot" with donations for the MDA. According to WKTV, people donated spare change to the cause and food and drinks to the firefighters.

According to the department's Facebook page, they raised over $6,500. The fundraiser is part of the department's 65-year relationship with the MDA.

"The fire fighters of the Rome IAFF #694 Fire Department have once again gone above and beyond for MDA’s families during this year’s Fill the Boot campaign,” Karen Fink, the development coordinator at the MDA told WKTV. “We are so grateful for their dedication and for the generosity of those in the Rome community who have helped to raise critical funds to help transform the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases."
