Another Central New York Restaurant Has Quietly Closed Its Doors

It’s always tough to see another locally owned business disappear, especially one that became part of the neighborhood.

Arizona Tacos, the family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant at 515 West Dominick Street in Rome, has officially closed its doors.

A sign posted on the front door simply says the restaurant is closed. Looking through the windows, the tables and chairs are still sitting in place, but there isn’t much else left inside.

It’s a quiet reminder of another small business that gave it a shot and served the community for several years.

Opened During a Challenging Time

Arizona Tacos first welcomed customers during the summer of 2020, which, as we all remember, wasn't exactly the easiest time to open a new restaurant.

Despite the challenges, the family worked hard to bring authentic Mexican favorites- tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and of course margaritas- to Rome.

Unfortunately, it appears their journey has come to an end.

A Changing Stretch of West Dominick Street

The closure comes as West Dominick Street continues to evolve.

Just two doors down, The Dirty Fizz Cafe recently opened its first permanent location after building a loyal following as a pop-up business.

The family-run café has quickly become a popular stop for its creative dirty sodas, fresh pastries, and a breakfast and lunch menu.

It's exciting to see a new business finding success, even as it's sad to see another one close. That's the reality of small business ownership—every opening is celebrated, and every closing is felt by the community.
