Remembering the Bloodiest Battle

Tuesday is a big day for history buffs, Central New Yorkers and the Mohawk Valley. It marks 242 years since the Battle of Oriskany in 1777, famously known as the bloodiest battle of the Revolutionary War.

The New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Oriskany Museum are holding a commemoration of the battle, with events throughout the day.

The main event is a 7 p.m. ceremony at the battlefield site with musket salutes and ceremonies with flags and wreaths, according to the Facebook event.

Join staff, volunteers, and descendants of battle participants for a solemn ceremony honoring those who defended their land and sacrificed their lives in one of the bloodiest battles of the American Revolution.
