NY Hunting and Trapping Licenses Record Sales
Many New Yorkers have been taking advantage of getting outside and enjoying the outdoors and the Adirondacks. The proof is in the record number of hunting and fishing licenses and permits that have been purchased for the season. According to WKBW.com, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC) is reporting that there has been a major increase in trapping and hunting licenses for these seasons.
The increase was extraordinary according to the Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos. He states that big game hunting and trapping license sales along with Deer Management Permits were three times as many as last year on opening day. There were more than double on the second day and for the first two weeks were also nearly double as last.
In 2020, so far, the DEC is reporting a record nine hundred twenty-two thousand forty-four dollars in big game sales where last year they had three hundred forty-seven thousand one hundred and three dollars in sales. This is triple the amount as 2019.
In the first two weeks of sales of licenses alone, the DEC says that sales have reaches six point two million dollars as opposed to three-point five million over last year.
Commissioner Basil Seggos said this of enjoying the outdoors in New York state:
“New York is home to some of the best hunting and fishing opportunities in the nation. DEC’s efforts to make sure hunters and anglers are able to purchase fishing, hunting, and trapping licenses and take hunter safety courses from the comfort of their homes, are making the outdoors even more accessible and we will continue to offer our new online courses as we transition back to offering in-person courses.”
If you buy trapping or hunting licenses, they are valid from September 1st through August 31st, 2021. The annual fishing licenses are good for one full year from the date your purchase it. Get more information HERE.
