Montgomery Gentry’s ‘Drink Along Song’ Video Is an Ode to the Good Times
Montgomery Gentry have shared a new music video for their latest single "Drink Along Song." The release coincides with the launch of the Troy Gentry Foundation, established in memory of the late member of the musical duo.
Readers can press play above to watch the video, which follows Montgomery Gentry on tour at several stops as they perform and interact with fans. The footage is some of the last filmed before Gentry's tragic death in a helicopter crash in September of 2017, and the images trigger powerful memories for the loved ones Gentry left behind.
“There are million things that go through my mind ... It’s a very mixed emotion. It’s one of those things where you know it’s going to hurt, but you have to do it anyway,” Gentry's widow, Angie, tells Billboard. “I hate seeing it, because it reinforces the fact that he’s gone, yet I love seeing it because I can still see him. I was watching it yesterday, and literally felt I could touch him through the screen. You just wish you could reach through there and just touch him. It’s bittersweet in so many ways. I love watching it because it’s a memory that is always going to be there, and I get to have that. But it also reminds me that’s the only way I can see him now.”
The video captures Gentry's genuine connection with his fans and his passion for the music that he made. His duo partner, Eddie Montgomery, voices an emotional response to the video.
“Your heart just melts," Montgomery shares. "Even though you’re going on, you miss him so much. I miss that big-a--ed smile that he had, and all the practical jokes that he was always pulling. When I see the video, it gets in your stomach and in your heart.”
The Troy Gentry Foundation was set up in memory of the late artist and provides support for cancer research organizations, groups that assist military families and organizations that focus on music education. For more information, visit the foundation website.
