Man Dies in Upstate NY Skydiving Accident
A seasoned skydiver died near Rochester, and officials believe he may have gotten tangled in his parachute.
68-year-old Richard Cordero had been skydiving for 45 years, New York State Police told WHEC. The fatal accident happened on a dive Saturday afternoon, when Cordero was accompanied by two other people with the Rochester Skydivers. Officials like Perry Fire Chief Dave Laraby are still searching for answers after the pilot noticed something was off and circled back to see Cordero had landed in a cornfield south of Soper Road in Perry, according to WHEC.
All we know is that his chute... it is believed that it did open correctly. He went into a spin and lost control of his parachute.
When emergency officials arrived at the cornfield and found Cordero, they performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, NYSP told WHEC.
